President's Letter

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! The Navy Nurse Corps Association continues to thrive. Our membership consistently represent the Navy Nurse Corps with pride through their many accomplishments and contributions across the country.

Spring is rapidly approaching and so is our 100th Anniversary Gala. The tours and various reunion events promise to be a wonderful time for renewing friendships, visiting the sights of Washington DC, and celebrating our history and the future of the Navy Nurse Corps. Veronica Rubin and the members of the reunion committee have done a great job in organizing this historical celebration. It promises to be a memorable event and I hope to see all of you there enjoying the festivities.

I am very pleased to announce the election of Shirley Lewis Brown (FL), Gloria Caffrey (FL) and Elizabeth “Lissa” Barker (OH) as the new members of the NNCA Board. Congratulations! We look forward to serving with them over the coming years.

They will relieve Vicki Coyle, Trudy Vering and Margaret Mullinix. Thank you to Vicki, Trudy and Margaret for your many contributions and for your three years of dedicated service to the NNCA. My sincere appreciation is also extended to Sandy Lindelof and Mary Jo Young who continue to find such highly qualified and committed candidates willing to serve the NNCA.

The NNCA Board of Directors held its winter board meeting via conference call in December. The board had a very aggressive agenda and completed a great deal of work including a review of the annual budget and plans for the Annual Board and Membership meetings in April and May.

The NNCA board meeting will take place on April 30 and May 1, at the Marriott Crystal Gateway in Arlington, Virginia. The Annual Membership meeting will take place on May 2. If you would like more detailed information about the meetings, please contact me or Mike Benway.

On a sad note, our Executive Director Mike Benway has tendered his resignation. Mike has done an incredible job following in the footsteps of Kit Tate. Mike is dedicated to the Navy Nurse Corps, he's been indispensable in his role as the Executive Director, and has made a superb contribution to the continued success of the NNCA.

Over the past year, the NNCA has received generous donations from many individuals and organizations. On behalf of the NNCA, I wish to thank those who remembered the NNCA and supported our mission through a financial donation. Thank you!

I look forward to May and a grand celebration with friends, old and new.

— Carolyn Carlton
