Washington Metro Area Navy Nurse Corps Association (WMANNCA)
Established 31 July 1990. Seven members serve on the Board of Directors. Each Board member serves for two years. Elections are held annually with 3-4 Board members being replaced every year.
Membership: Currently there are 130 members from the states of Maryland, Northern Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and the District of Columbia. Membership is open to all Navy Nurses, active and former, active duty, retired, and reserve who are serving or been honorably discharged.
Meetings: Luncheon meetings are held twice a year, in the Spring and Fall. The full membership is invited to participate. Usually a guest speaker or entertainment is part of the luncheon agenda. A newsletter is published in June and November.
Chapter Dues: WMANNCA dues are $15 a year and collected simultaneously with national NNCA dues.
Chapter Mission/Projects: The purpose of WMANNCA is to maintain a social, professional, and support network that encourages continuous identity with current (Active Duty and Reserve), Retired, and Former Navy Nurses. Additionally, we support the purposes of NNCA, our parent organization. WMANNCA members are committed to assisting both veterans and active duty forces. In the past, care packages have been sent at each luncheon to active forces ashore and afloat. We are actively involved with Welcome Home Maryland, a group of volunteers who greet returning service personnel at BWI as well as the Honor Flight program that welcomes aging veterans visiting Washington, D.C. Another project that has active involvement by WMANNCA is "Wreaths Across America", a project that assures that wreaths are laid each December at the graves in military cemeteries. We are also a supporter of WIMSA with regular donations to that organization. WMANNCA is dedicated to co-sponsoring awards (with NNCA) for nursing excellence through the DAISY Foundation at both Walter Reed and Fort Belvoir Military Healthcare facilities.
